When the Answer Is Yes

I still remember staring at the email for a few seconds before opening it properly. Not because I didn’t want to read it. But because after so many applications, hope starts becoming careful. You prepare yourself for disappointment quietly. Even when you’ve done good work.

Then I opened it.

“Congratulations…”

For a moment, I was excited. Relieved even.

Then almost immediately, another feeling entered:

“Wait… am I actually ready for this?”

I think people talk a lot about rejection in this journey, but not enough about what happens when things finally work out. Because sometimes the “yes” you prayed for can feel intimidating too.

You start thinking about everything ahead:

• moving countries

• finances

• expectations

• whether you are truly good enough

And strangely, after all the waiting and hoping, some people begin to shrink away from the very opportunity they wanted.

But here’s something I’ve learned:

You do not become fully ready before the opportunity arrives. You grow into it.

Most scholarships, schools, and programmes are not looking for perfect people. They are looking for people with potential, clarity, and willingness to grow.

That “yes” is not a mistake.

Someone reviewed your application, your story, your experiences, and decided that you belonged in that space.

Trust that.

Of course, excitement should also come with responsibility.

• Reply professionally.

• Read instructions carefully.

• Prepare your documents early.

• Start planning ahead instead of panicking late.

But beyond the logistics, there is also a mindset shift that needs to happen.

Stop seeing yourself as someone merely hoping for opportunities.

Start seeing yourself as someone capable of handling them.

That confidence matters.

And if your answer hasn’t come yet, or if it has been “no” so far, this should still encourage you.

Every strong applicant you admire likely started from uncertainty too.

The process changes you gradually.

Small steps.

Consistency.

Feedback.

Resilience.

Over time, you become the kind of person who can carry bigger opportunities well.

So when the answer is yes, celebrate it.

But more importantly, step fully into it.

You’ve worked for this.
