After You Apply

What to do while you wait

Published 6 May 2026 · 289 words

I remember checking my email more than usual after I submitted my applications.

Not constantly. But often enough. Alright, I’ll be honest, almost constantly.

Every notification felt important. Every silence felt like a signal. Days passed. Then weeks.

Nothing.

It’s a strange phase.

You’ve done the work. You’ve submitted. There is nothing left to edit, improve, or send. But your mind doesn’t stop.

You start replaying things:

“Maybe I should have changed that sentence.”

“Was my example strong enough?”

“What if I missed something?”

At this stage, there is a strong temptation to wait. To pause everything until you hear back.

But waiting is not neutral. It can quietly drain your momentum.

This is where many people lose time.

After you apply, your work is not over. It just changes form.

Instead of looking backward at what you submitted, start looking forward.

What can you improve before the next cycle?

You already have insight now that you didn’t have before. You understand the process better. You know what strong applications look like. You know where you struggled.

Use this.

You can:

  • refine your CV

  • document your experiences more clearly

  • start new projects or deepen existing ones

  • build stronger relationships for future references

Even small improvements now will make your next application stronger.

This also helps your mindset. Instead of waiting and worrying, you are moving and building.

You are no longer stuck in “what if.”

You are back in control.

This connects to everything we’ve discussed.

Agency — you act, even while waiting.

Resilience — you keep going regardless of outcome.

Small steps — you continue to build.

The result will come when it comes.

But your progress does not have to wait for it.

Submit… and keep moving.
